Ielts, the International English Language Testing System, is an international certification attesting to the level of English language knowledge of a candidate who travels to English-speaking countries for study or work purposes.
Thanks to its high reliability and international recognition, Ielts is the most widely used test in the world. It was developed by the British Council, Idp Ielts Australia and University Of Cambridge Esol. Ielts complies with the highest international standards of language assessment.
It determines competence in the four language skills: listening, reading, written and oral communication. The Ielts certification for working abroad is available in two modules: Academic and General. Academic: is taken by those aiming for the world

Obtained by those who apply to the university world for undergraduate, master, doctoral or professional careers abroad.
General
Dedicated to those who want to work abroad with a degree lower than a degree or who need, for the purpose of immigration to English-speaking countries, a language certification.
How IELTS works
The test provides a result for each level of English: it is not an exam that can be passed or failed.
You will always receive a result from 1 to 9 (with deviations of 0.5) for each of the four parts of the test: listening (listening), reading (reading), writing (writing) and speaking (speaking). In addition there will be an overall final result equal to the average of the four tests.
